While leaving West Hollywood’ Pump Restaurant on its final night, a Slaughter Free Network’s activist confronted reality TV star and restaurant entrepreneur Lisa Vanderpump for selling meat at her restaurants. The activist, holding an image of a chicken locked in a cage, said to her, “Lisa, why do you say you love dogs and then raise chickens to be killed?”

Lisa Jane Vanderpump is an English television personality who was a main cast member and an executive producer on Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules since 2013, and an original main cast member on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from 2010 to 2019.

Vanderpump had railed against the Yulin Dog Eating Festival in China, yet she was condoning the same type of animal abuse perpetrated on other animals by serving them as food in her restaurants.  The activist made a case that chickens are no different than dogs and she compared the Yulin Dog Eating Festival to chickens being raised to be slaughtered.

In November 2022, activists from Slaughter Free Network also demonstrated outside of Vanderpump restaurants in West Hollywood, demanding to stop the sale of chicken, specifically Jidori chicken, and replace it with plant-based food.

Leah Goodwin, an organiser for Slaughter Free Network, said to Weho Times, “Nothing is changing despite our claims and evidence… Supposedly Jidori is the best of the best chicken, and they say they took it off the menu. They need to transition into a plant-based option.” Slaughter Free Network alleges that one of the chefs told them that the restaurant Sur, also co-owned by Vanderpump and down the street from PUMP, is still selling Jidori chicken despite it not being on the menu. Vanderpump’s PUMP restaurant is closing apparently due to an expired lease and a rent increase, but her other restaurants remain open.
