Alaska Airlines has announced three new plant-based pre-order options on all meal service flights. The announcement comes as several other airlines are adding big plant-based upgrades to their dining as well!
Alaska Airlines Announces Three New Plant-Based Meals
When you book first class on any Alaska Airlines flight, you’ll now be able to select from a range of new vegan meal options. Satisfy your taste buds with an innovative Harissa & Chorizo Frittata crafted with plant-based JUST Egg. Or heat things up with Alaska Airline’s new Spicy Tofu Wrap. Not feeling either of those? Then try their White Bean Chili with Grilled Polenta! Economy passengers can enjoy a new Stand Banh Mi Salad with Tofu.
The announcement follows other significant changes from Alaska Airlines last year, which saw two plant-based offerings made available to the Main Cabin. Last July, the fleet added the “Soy Meets World,” a romaine lettuce salad complete with roasted broccoli, cucumber, pickled carrots, green onion, brown rice, cashews, and fried tofu dressed in a Tamari Chili Lime sauce! Alaska Airlines also currently serves a vegan, gluten-free Mediterranean Tapas pack that comes with hummus, corn crackers, almonds, snack olives, a fruit bar, and a piece of dark chocolate!
Airlines Expand Vegan Offerings in 2023
Airlines, such as Swiss International Air Lines, have debuted exciting new plant-based items on flights this year. Earlier this month, SWISS rolled out Oatly Caffè Latte on all flights, combining the power of organic coffee extract with organic oat milk.
Korean Air also announced new sustainable plant-based offerings such as steamed barley rice (with burdock, roasted shiitake mushrooms, mung bean jelly salad, and roasted tofu with plum salsa) and ginkgo nut porridge (with roasted yam with soybean paste) earlier this year.
At the top of the year, Emirates announced a 154% increase in vegan meals being ordered onboard the past fiscal year. The airline served 195,000 plant-based desserts in 2022, including vegan dark chocolate custard cake and chocolate tofu cheesecake. Even Economy passengers were able to feast on dishes such as creamy spinach and avocado mousseline (with marinated tofu, blanched snow peas, radish, asparagus, pomegranate seeds, courgette ribbon, and sriracha oil), multicolored quinoa (with caramelized pear, celeriac purée, roasted cauliflower, glazed carrots, sautéed kale, and lovage pesto), and the hearty flavors of barley risotto (with mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, buttered chestnuts, blanched broccolini, and toasted pumpkin seeds).
Airlines around the world are increasingly becoming more inclusive in their meal offerings.
