Los Angeles – Starbuck and Six are back together! In time for National Cat Day (October 29), Battlestar Galactica costars Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff have teamed up in a new PETA video to say that it doesn’t matter whether you’re a “cat person” like Helfer or a “dog person” like Sackhoff—it’s being an adoption person that counts.

Why? “Because adoption saves lives,” says Helfer. And as The Mandalorian’s Sackhoff is quick to point out, “Even if you are looking for a specific breed, you can still adopt. There is a universe full of breed-specific rescues out there.”

“And Petfinder.com,” adds Helfer. “I mean it’s like online dating but for adoptable animals.”

There are truly millions of reasons to adopt: Around 70 million dogs and cats are homeless in the U.S. at any given time. An estimated 10% of them end up in animal shelters, where many must eventually be euthanized for reasons including injury, illness, old age, lack of good homes, and emotional and psychological damage. While adopting saves a life, breeders and pet shops make the homeless-animal overpopulation crisis even worse.

The Lucifer alum and Sackoff are part of a long list of celebrities—including Edward James Olmos, Krysten Ritter, John Stamos, Cristin Milioti, and Emma Kenney—who have teamed up with PETA to promote animal adoption.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
