Los Angeles – Couples looking to leave animals off their plates this Valentine’s Day need look no further than PIZZANISTA! in the downtown Arts District. Just in time for the heart-clad holiday, the pizzeria has teamed up with PETA to launch the Joan Jett x PETA pie: a black heart-shaped crust (in honor of the Blackhearts and Jett’s big heart for animals) piled high with veggies and creamy, melty vegan cheese from Miyoko’s Creamery, served in a heart-shaped box.
Lovers and veggie-loving singles can even record the occasion with the perfect V-Day snap, in front of PIZZANISTA!’s colorful mural by artist Tait Roelofs:
“Joan Jett has said that if there’s anything she loves more than rock ’n’ roll, it’s animals, so this edgy vegan pizza is the perfect tribute,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “L.A. romantics who want to avoid supporting the dirty deeds of the meat and dairy industries should celebrate with the PIZZANISTA vegan pie.”
Choosing vegan pizza spares animals immense suffering, and people who go vegan slash their risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, and strokes; dramatically shrink their carbon footprint; and help prevent future pandemics.
PIZZANISTA! is located at 2019 E. Seventh St., near Mateo Street. The pizza will be available for four months starting January 22, at a 20% discount to PETA members—and fills the heart as well as the stomach, since $2 from each purchase goes to support PETA’s lifesaving work for animals.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
