Philadelphia – At the Back to the Future–themed Fan Expo this weekend, PETA and giant bouncy “babies” will pass out 5,000 dairy-free Vego chocolate bars. Why? To make the point that cow’s milk is for baby cows, not humans, and that attendees better start eating vegan if they want a future to go back to.
When: Saturday, June 3, 12 noon
Where: Outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 133 N. Broad St. (at the intersection with Cherry Street), Philadelphia
In the archaic dairy industry, calves are torn away from their beloved mothers so that the milk they produce for the calves can be sold for human use, and cow emissions are the primary source of the greenhouse gas methane, which is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide in warming the atmosphere.
“No one needs a DeLorean time machine to see that drinking milk designed for calves wrecks the planet and robs us of a future,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “With all the dairy-free chocolates, cheeses, and milks available today, going vegan is easy, and PETA’s giveaway will give the expo a delicious taste before it’s too late.”
PETA will hand out a total of 10,000 Vego chocolate bars at various festivals in Philadelphia and Virginia Beach, Virginia this weekend.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—offers a free vegan starter kit on its website.
