Every week it seems like thereâs another plant milk out there hitting the market â and many of them arrive to a chorus of the same critiques: too much sugar, no Vitamin D, no protein. But the newest dairy alternative, sesame milk, might provide an answer. Hope & Sesame boasts that its product, which it calls âsesamemilk,â is the most nutritious plant milk yet.
What makes sesame milk so special? Hope & Sesame claims their products hare lower in sugar than competitors, boasts eight times the protein of nut milks, three times the protein of oat milk, and delivers calcium, iron, and twice the Vitamin D of dairy milk. And since itâs a seed, itâs safe for people with nut allergies, as well as being free of six other major allergy triggers. But, according to the company, thatâs only part of what sets sesame milk apart.
âWhen we learned how unsustainable many dairy-free beverages are, our Chicago-based, family-run food business knew we had to find a better solution than macadamia, almond, cashew, oat, hemp, or soy milk,â a statement on the brandâs website notes. âSesame needs little water to grow, and it renews the soil. Because itâs self-pollinating and requires no pesticides, sesame conserves bee populations. Itâs been that way for 5,000+ years.â
Hope & Sesameâs sesame milk is currently available in five flavors â original, unsweetened original, vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate-hazelnut â and can be found at Sprouts Farmers Market grocery stores nationwide or purchased online. The chocolate-hazelnut flavor recently picked up a âbest new productâ award from the trade publication Progressive Grocer.
