Frontman of the hardcore metal band Napalm Death, Mark “Barney” Greenway, has recently shared his stance on veganism.

In an interview at Bloodstock festival, Barney revealed he had been vegetarian for 28 years before switching to a vegan diet 10 years ago.

Moreover, the musician explained his reasoning for switching to a plant-based lifestyle was for both morale and health reasons.

“Why do I need to eat these things?”

In the interview, Barney shares:  “I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 14 years old. So 38 years I’m a vegetarian. Vegan for just over 10 years now.

“To be honest, I was pretty much always vegan. There was just a couple of things in my diet, but then I was just, like, ‘Why do I need to eat these things?’ So I cut it out.”

The Napalm Death frontman went on to suggest that more and more people are switching to a vegan diet, but there was still a long way to go.

Greenway added: “I think now people have more of an integral understanding of basically preserving the environment — the very environment that we live in.

Intensive farming is not sustainable; it can’t continue. So I know the whole planet is gonna have to adapt to a more plant-based diet.”

“Being a person who holds regard for all sentient beings — it’s a human issue”

This isn’t the first time the Napalm Death frontman has used his platform to speak about veganism.

During an interview with Westworld in 2016, Barney said: “I don’t like the word ‘morals.’ I think morality is a false concept.

“For me, being a person who holds regard for all sentient beings — it’s a human issue. It’s not about me and what I’ve done. It’s about my approach to life. It’s about regard for other sentient beings.”

Celebrities using their platform to promote a plant-based diet play a crucial role in the movement.

It’s so encouraging to see them using their influence to showcase the ethical lifestyle and incredible benefits veganism can have on us all.
