San Jose, Calif. – Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo on SRI International’s critical violation of animal welfare laws, which prompted a citation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

If SRI International wants to be the innovative company that it claims to be, it should stop shoving thick plastic gavage tubes down the throats of monkeys, dogs, and other animals and stop dropping small animals into inescapable beakers of liquid, where they struggle to stay afloat for fear of drowning. A federal report obtained by PETA reveals that a monkey died after a worker at SRI inserted a gavage tube incorrectly and incompetently, pumping a test compound into the animal’s lungs rather than stomach. In this age of organs-on-chips, three-dimensional human-based tissue models, high-throughput computer simulations, bioinformatics, and other human-relevant research methodologies, there is no excuse for continuing to torment and kill animals in Stone Age tests.
