Calling all Portland foodies! Portland’s very own queer-owned vegan pop-up Mis Tacones is set to open their first brick-and-mortar location next month on Killingsworth in Vernon.

Queer-Owned Vegan Taco Shop in Portland, Oregon

Mis Tacones has been popping up all over Portland since 2016, serving up tacos, burritos, and nachos with their iconic house-made seitan. Over the years, they’ve popped up at farmers markets, on queer dance nights, and in the parking lot of the famed Portland vegan mini-mall.

Mis Tacones—which translates to “my tacos”—was born from the owner and partner team of Polo Banuelos’ and Carlos Reynoso’s desire to bring authentic Mexican street food to Portland in a safe and queer-oriented space. When the pop-up first got going, it wasn’t uncommon to see Banuelos and Reynoso slinging tacos while wearing stilettos, and the duo has always been heavily involved with the local queer community. Trans people of color have always eaten for free at Mis Tacones, and that trend will continue at the new space.

Mis Tacones’ Queer and Vegan Community Space

Mis Tacones’ new location is set to open in early February at 1670 NE Killingsworth St, Portland, OR 97211, taking over the lease from fellow queer- and BIPOC-owned spot Tiffin Asha. Expect many of the classic favorites on the menu, like the taco trio made with their house seitan and served with cashew crema and pico de gallo on masa tortillas from the local Three Sisters Nixtamal.

The rest of the menu will include burritos, chimichangas, nachos, tortas, and empanadas, as well as traditional Mexican desserts like fried ice cream and flan from local family-owned business La Casa De Mama. The new spot will have a full bar, so expect plenty of tequila-based cocktails, as well as wine and beer on tap from a variety of local and Oregonian companies, including several brews from Xicha Brewing Company in Salem.

Mis Tacones will be turning their restaurant into a community space open to queer- and BIPOC-owned businesses, so expect the atmosphere to be warm, welcoming, and wonderfully queer. Give Mis Tacones a follow on Instagram at @mistaconespdx for further updates on the new location.
