Actress Rosario Dawson has been eating a plant-based diet since 2019. The social justice activist initially decided to switch to a whole foods plant-based diet in a bid to feel less stressed.
Using her diet as a form of self-care, she told PEOPLE: “I’m mostly vegan and raw these days for my health and peace of mind.
“I rest better, I feel better, with less inflammation and more flexibility. I feel full without feeling uncomfortable or tired afterwards. I love the energy.
“With my busy lifestyle, nutrition is very important to me, so I make sure to choose foods that give me the nutrients I want,” she added.
Rosario Dawson’s plant-based diet
Dawson follows a whole food plant-based diet filled with foods that promote gut health such as “sauerkraut, kimchi and vegan yoghurt” following her feather’s cancer diagnoses.
Speaking with EatingWell in a recent interview, Dawson revealed what she eats each day to stay fit and healthy at 42.
A fan of seasonal eating, Dawson starts the day overnight oats during the summer. In the winter months, she enjoys heartier dishes such as warm oatmeal or avocado toast to start the day.
Dawson loves veggies and tries to include them in every meal. So, for lunch, she usually tucks into a superfood salad or a stir-fry to pack in the nutrients.
For dinner, she typically eats light and flavoursome meals like noodles or ramen.
“I like changing it up. I put turmeric in everything. I use a lot of ginger,” she revealed.
Dawson has been dating fellow vegan senator Corey Brooker for a number of years and was inspired by her partner to go plant-based.
The couple has enjoyed cooking together over lockdown, with Booker telling PEOPLE: “She came to [veganism] on her own, which is great because we have, during the time of COVID, been working on cooking together a lot more.”
