Fort Lauderdale, Fla. â On Friday, three nearly nude PETA supporters covered in âbloodâ and lying on giant meat trays wrapped in cellophaneâcomplete with the meat industryâs typical and misleading âfree-rangeâ and âcertified humaneâ labelsâwill challenge spring break crowds flocking to Las Olas Beach and nearby restaurants to think about who meat really is. Taking a stand behind the display, additional supporters will brandish signs that read, âWe Are All the Same. Go Vegan.â
When: Friday, March 10, 12 noon
Where: 299 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale
âJust like humans, other animals feel joy, pain, and fear and donât want to be slaughtered for a fleeting taste of their flesh,â says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. âPETA encourages everyone to think of the once-living individual behind every neatly wrapped corpse sold at the supermarket.â
PETA points out that âorganic,â âfree-range,â and other deceptive labels are a marketing scheme, as the animals are still mutilated without painkillers, jabbed with electric prods, and sent to the very same slaughterhouses used by the worst suppliers, where they suffer and endure terrifying deaths.
PETAâwhose motto reads, in part, that âanimals are not ours to eatââopposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
