Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that are involved in a multitude of important roles in the body, including converting food into energy, supporting immunity, and facilitating tissue remodelling and repair.

A diet that contains plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, quality protein, healthy fats and whole grains should, in theory, deliver the nutrients needed for good health.

But not everyone manages to eat a healthful diet, and even if we consume what would be considered an optimal diet, all the time, we may still be lacking in nutrients.

Nutrient shortfalls are caused by a multiplicity of different factors, and this means that many of us are not getting the level of nutrients needed for health.

These include our food choices, depleted soil, food growing, processing, and preparation methods.

Additionally, there are also factors outside of our diets that can play a part.

A sedentary lifestyle, genetic variations, illness, old age, and medications, can all contribute to increased micronutrient needs.

A recent analysis of the UK’s major dietary surveys found that many of us are not even obtaining the most basic level of certain nutrients and that fruit and vegetable intake is sub-optimal in all groups of the population.

Getting adequate nutrients every day is essential to help your body function and whilst a multivitamin and mineral should not replace a well-balanced diet, it can be an important addition to help bridge the nutrition gap and a solution to delivering the micronutrients that are increasingly diminishing from the food chain. This can help safeguard against nutrient shortfalls.

Our philosophy here at Cytoplan is that nutrients should be ‘bio-effective’ meaning they are in a form that is easy for the body to use.

Therefore, we believe many nutrients are best delivered to the body in the same form as food.

Wholefood nutrients have been grown hydroponically into an edible vegetable that has a great ability to uptake high levels of nutrients.

Plants are grown in a clean and controlled environment, and in mineral-rich water containing the level of nutrients required in the finished product.

These are taken up into the root systems of the plants and transported into the leaf vacuoles, which become tissue metabolised into the plant leaf tissue. This is the natural process that occurs during normal plant growth in soil.

The resulting product is a mineral-rich wholefood complex containing high levels of optimally-soluble bio-effective minerals that are appropriate to metabolic activity.

The other great advantage of natural plant minerals is that they contain thousands of other phytonutrients, which have complementary and beneficial actions on the human body.

They contain all the bio-actives that our bodies expect to obtain from fresh vegetables – our greatest protectors, and the component most absent from 21st Century diets.

Our Wholefood Multi provides excellent levels of nutrients and includes minerals hydroponically-grown into a base of the cruciferous vegetable Brassica juncea, an edible member of the same family of cruciferous vegetables as broccoli.

These minerals are therefore in the same form as in foods, just in much higher levels.

It also contains a fruit and vegetable powder blend of carrot, Spirulina, alfalfa, artichoke leaf, beetroot, acai berry and acerola to provide extra phytonutrients.

Of equal importance in a multivitamin and mineral is optimal levels of nutrients and in order to achieve this, certain nutrients may be augmented above that which can be achieved from food, but always in a bio-effective form.

Methylated and reduced nutrients are not readily available from plant sources but are recognised as being more bio-effective.

For example, methylfolate has greater and safer activity in the body than folic acid, as does methylcobalamin (B12) which does not occur in nature in a form that can be harvested but is the most bio-effective.

Our Wholefood Multi provides the methylated forms of folic acid and vitamin B12, as well as the active form of vitamin B6 (P-5-P). This helps us to deliver a bio-effective product with optimal levels to our customers.

As well as our commitment to health, we are actively addressing the sustainable consuming habits that must now be adopted in our ongoing commitment to the environment.

Our Wholefood Multi and other products are now packaged in a 100% biodegradable material of plant origin and are an environmental-friendly alternative for packaging our supplements.
