This month, Volvo Cars and 3.1 Phillip Lim have teamed up to create a sustainable handbag. The new, limited-edition Weekend Bag was designed using materials made from Nordico, a sustainable material developed by Volvo Cars that consists of recycled PET bottles, recycled corks, and other bio-attributed sources. The two companies are equally committed to sustainability and wanted to create an item that would reflect this shared commitment.
“Sustainability has been a part of the 3.1 brand from the beginning—working to achieve a sustainable balance in everything we do,” Phillip Lim, Co-Founder and Creative Director of 3.1 Phillip Lim, told VegOut. “Our brand mantra is to make less, mean more. Connecting with Volvo on this sustainability project was an instant alignment of values.”
A Weekend Bag Designed with the Eco-Conscious Traveler in Mind
A weekend bag designed with the eco-conscious traveler in mind, the new product was inspired by Scandinavian-style handbags. The bag features discreet storage, a double strap, and a special signature pouch, perfect for toting toiletries and other vacation necessities.
While it’s not available for purchase due to the exclusive limited-edition run, those who wish to get their hands on the Weekend Bag may have the opportunity to do so through local market initiatives, including competitions, charity auctions, and giveaways.
Volvo’s Next Generation of Fully Electric Cars
In addition to the handbag, Nordico will make its debut in Volvo’s next generation of fully electric cars. Earlier this year, the company also announced that starting with the C40 Recharge, all new fully electric Volvo models will be completely leather-free.
“We have a vision of where we need to go in the future, with the first step to ensure we harness sustainable, natural, and recycled materials,” Robin Page, head of design at Volvo Cars, told VegOut.
