Cincinnati â Ahead of the holiday shopping storm, Kenwood Towne Centre is refusing to run a PETA ad featuring an adorable lamb named Percy soaking up the love from vegan model Liz Turner, on the grounds that it would seem âunsupportiveâ of its wool-selling retailers.
âHow about supporting a gentle lambâs right to be himself, not a piece of clothing?â says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. âThis cowardly decision blocks PETA from nudging shoppers toward cozy vegan pieces that spare animalsâ lives.â
PETAâs most recent wool-industry exposĂ©âthe sixth exposĂ© of the wool industry in Australia, which produces 88% of the worldâs supply for apparelâreveals that workers punched sheep in the face, kicked them, cut off swaths of their flesh, and left many with bleeding wounds. Data from theâŻHigg Materials Sustainability IndexâŻshow that because of the greenhouse-gas emissions created during its production, wool is much worse for the environment than its vegan counterparts.
PETAâwhose motto reads, in part, that âanimals are not ours to wearââopposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
